Exceptional Constituent Services

Putting People First: My Commitment to Constituent Services
By Michael Scarlata, Candidate for North Reading Select Board

One of my top priorities as a member of the North Reading Select Board will be providing exceptional constituent services. Members of the Select Board should always be accessible, responsive, and committed to addressing residents' questions or directing them to the appropriate town department in a timely manner. Accessibility and transparency build trust, and I will make it my mission to ensure that every resident feels heard and respected.

There are three primary ways for the public to communicate with the Select Board, and I will work to improve each avenue of engagement:

  1. Public Comment at Select Board Meetings
The Select Board typically meets twice a month, and every meeting includes a “Public Comments” agenda item. This allows residents to speak on any town topic, issue, or event. While the Select Board is not obligated to respond during this time, I will take a proactive approach. If a resident asks a question during Public Comments, I will respond—through the Chair—either with an answer, by directing them to the appropriate town department, or by taking their name and email to follow up within 48 hours. If necessary, I will ask the Town Administrator to provide a timely response as well.
  2. Direct Communication via Email
Every Select Board member has a dedicated .gov email address, but this is not widely known within the community. Residents can email the Select Board 24/7 with their questions, concerns, or comments. If elected, I will make it my policy to respond to all inquiries within 48 hours. Timely communication is vital to building a government that serves the people effectively. For your convenience, here are the Select Board email addresses:
  1. Participation at Town Meetings
Twice a year, in June and October, residents can engage directly at Town Meeting. During these meetings, the public may speak to the Town Moderator about specific articles on the warrant. While the Moderator controls the discussion, the moderator may ask the Select Board to respond to questions. If given the opportunity, I will provide clear and thorough answers to ensure residents are fully informed.
If I am fortunate to earn your trust and your vote, I will prioritize accessibility and responsiveness. Whether through public comments, emails, or town meetings, I will work tirelessly to ensure that your questions, concerns, and comments are addressed promptly and effectively.

I respectfully ask for your vote on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Together, we can create a more transparent, responsive, and connected North Reading.
