Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Michael Scarlata, and I am a candidate for North Reading Select Board. I moved to North Reading three years ago from Peabody. At that time, I was tired of city life and wanted to find a quaint bedroom type of community, so I chose North Reading. Looking back, it was absolutely the right move for me. In the short time that I have been a resident of North Reading I have met so many wonderful people many of whom I call friends.
Inspired by my late parents, who valued community service and volunteerism, I wholeheartedly believe in giving back. This belief drives my involvement in several town committees, philanthropic organizations, and my longstanding commitment to the Knights of Columbus.
My Record of Volunteerism:
- Active Volunteer with the North Reading Council on Aging
- Active Member with Friends of North Reading Council on Aging
- Active Member of the North Reading Historical and Antiquarian Society
- Donor and Supporter of the North Reading Real Senior Prom
- Donor and Supporter of the North Reading Food Pantry
- Volunteer at My Brother's Table Food Pantry in Lynn
- Grand Knight and Treasurer of the Lynn Knights of Columbus
I support North Reading’s Police and Fire. The men and woman that serve on the North Reading Police and Fire departments are true heroes. The town of North Reading is fortunate to have a dedicated police and fire department that keep our residents safe. The fire department should be applauded for all their efforts while battling the stubborn brush fires that plagued our town in the fall. The residents of North Reading came through with their amazing generosity by donating food, water and supplies to our fire, police and first responders.
I support our North Reading Senior Citizens. Many of our seniors volunteer their time on the Council on Aging, Hillview Commission and many other committees and boards within the town. The North Reading Seniors have been at the forefront of how the town of North Reading has developed over the years. The likes of Rita Mullin, George Stack and many others have shaped this town into what it is today. We owe our beloved seniors a tremendous amount of gratitude and respect. If I am fortunate to be elected to the Select Board, I will do what I can to ensure that our senior’s quality of life remains robust and fruitful. There is no doubt the backbone of North Reading lies with our Seniors.
I support our wonderful North Reading Veterans. It is because of our veterans that we as a nation can enjoy our freedoms. I have had the pleasure of meeting veteran and North Reading resident Richard Stratton a few years ago. Richard is very involved with veteran affairs for the town of North Reading. Richard has helped organize our National Purple Heart Recognition Day (August 7) and the Veterans Day Ceremony (November 11). Richard is a tremendous asset to North Reading and a good friend.
I am 59 years old; I work for Bright Horizons in their Finance division. I am a graduate of Peabody High School Class of 1983 and a graduate of Bentley University Class of 1987. I am a member of the Lynn Knights of Columbus and the current Treasurer and Grand Knight. I am happy to announce that the Lynn Knights of Columbus have partnered with the North Reading Food Pantry to provide them with monthly financial support. I enjoy playing golf, traveling, boating and rooting for our Boston Sports Teams. Please feel free to email me Scarlata4NorthReadingSB@yahoo.com. I am happy to answer any questions you might have.
Thank You Michael Scarlata, Candidate for North Reading Select Board
